Clara Boreman Carver
Golden Spike Chapter, NSDAR, Organizing and Charter Member
First Chapter Regent in 1920 and Utah State Regent
It must have been thrilling for Clara Boreman Carver to take the oath of office as the first regent of the Golden Spike Chapter, NSDAR, on December 8, 1919. Little did she know at the time that the chapter she helped start would still be going strong in 2020. Clara was an organizing member and charter member. She served as chapter regent, Utah state regent, and various other positions in the Golden Spike Chapter, NSDAR, and Utah State Society, NSDAR.
Clara was born June 19, 1874 in Beaver, Utah to Jacob and Mary Boreman. Her father was a federal judge for the Utah Territory.
She attended schools in Salt Lake City and Ogden, Utah. Later she attended the University of Colorado and Oberlin College in Ohio. After teaching in Ogden schools, she became matron of the Dwight Indian School located at Marble, Oklahoma, Indian Territory.
In 1908, Clara married Dr. John Edward Carver, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Ogden.
Along with her membership in DAR, Clara was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was the first guardian of the Ogden Bethel order of Job’s Daughters. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile.
Clara passed away at the age of 71 on February 12, 1946. She was laid to rest in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City with a DAR marker beside her headstone.
